Been in your job for two years and still haven’t met your boss in person? Welcome to the club!

Hi friends. Coach Maya here. I am so glad you are here.

Being remote doesn’t mean being invisible.

Here are 7 ways for you to shine from behind that screen:

  1. Turn your camera ON. Your facial expressions matter. Your body language speaks volumes. Don’t lose that gold in text-only chats.
  2. Break out of your department bubble! Who else could you work with? Reach out. “Hey, how’s it going? Need any help?” People love it when you check in like that. They really do.
  3. Don’t fade away in meetings. Speak up, share your ideas, volunteer, and share your strategic thinking.
  4. Take on high-profile projects. Present at all-hands meetings. Become the expert everyone turns to.
  5. Make your manager your ally. Ask where you can help. Join key meetings. Own projects. Make their job easier and watch your influence grow.
  6. Visit the office when possible. Coordinate with others. Tuesday through Thursday? Prime time. Schedule face-to-face coffees. Have real lunches.
  7. Be responsive. Jump on spontaneous calls. Reply quickly. Show that “remote” doesn’t mean “unavailable.”

You don’t need to be physically present to make an impact. Be proactive. Stay engaged. Keep connected. You’re not just a name on a screen. You’re a key player.

Here is your action step: Schedule three check-ins with cross-functional peers this week. Just three. See what happens.
