Hello! I’m Coach Maya, a mom of triplets, where two of my kids, Savannah and Ethan, are autistic and nonverbal. We struggled with communication until we discovered an app that allows them to express themselves by typing.

After months of slow progress, I decided to use the leadership strategies I teach my clients with my kids, leading to three key principles:

  1. Presume Competence: I realized that Savannah had been absorbing knowledge all along. Using familiar Beatles songs, we engaged in conversations that revealed her understanding. Believing in someone’s potential can unlock their capabilities.
  2. Tap Into Emotional Sensitivity: By noticing Savannah’s small cues, I learned to better understand her feelings. In the workplace, use phrases that invite sharing, like “What’s been your biggest win this week?” This creates a safe space for open communication.
  3. Embrace Positive Reinforcement: After our breakthroughs, I celebrated each small success, which built her confidence. When I asked her her favorite color and she replied “Blue,” I was blown away!

These principles can transform any environment, fostering a space where people feel appreciated and empowered. Start today to unlock untapped potential! I’d love to hear your leadership breakthroughs in the comments. You got this! Thanks for watching!
