Ever feel like your technical expertise is both your superpower AND your career handcuffs? You’re not alone.

Hello friends! Coach Maya here.
So you’re the go-to expert. The problem solver. The one who knows all the technical details.
But now what?
Here’s the thing: the skills that got you HERE won’t get you THERE.
Are you stuck in the expert trap? Ask yourself:

• Do you dive into technical details that make your colleagues’ eyes glaze over?
• Are you putting out fires instead of preventing them?
• Do you steer every conversation back to your comfort zone?

Sound familiar? Look, I’ve coached hundreds of leaders at this exact crossroads. The solution isn’t abandoning your expertise—it’s expanding your vision.

Try these 4 quick shifts:
1. Look ahead. Before every decision, ask: “How will this position us in five years?” Not just today.
2. Think big picture. Connect your work to the company strategy. Instead of thinking: “I need to solve this technical issue right now.” Ask yourself: “How does solving this issue advance our strategic goals? How does my project impact other departments and our business?
3. Stay curious. What trends are reshaping your industry? Who’s disrupting your space? Get obsessed with the future.
4. Make time to think. Block “strategic thinking” time on your calendar. Protect it like it’s your most important meeting—because it is!

Here’s your wake-up call: Leaders who can’t make this shift often hit a career ceiling. They become brilliant experts who never reach their full leadership potential.

Is that the story you want to tell?

Start small. This week, schedule just 30 minutes of strategic thinking time. No emails. No calls. Just big-picture planning.

Here is my question for you: What’s your biggest struggle with strategic thinking? Drop it in the comments below.
