3 Minutes a Day That Can Transform Your Life

Hey there! Coach Maya here. Feel like you’re drowning in responsibilities? I’ve been there. Career in full swing, constant travel, three teenagers at home, and completely running on empty.

Let me ask you something: What if 3 minutes of your day could transform your entire life? Because that’s exactly what happened to me.

I started talking to myself—not the crazy kind—but asking myself the same powerful questions every day for a year. And guess what? It changed everything.

This practice comes from my mentor Marshall Goldsmith, one of the world’s top leadership coaches.

Here’s how it works for you:
You create questions that matter to YOUR life and YOUR goals. My game-changer was simple: “Did I do my best to nurture myself today?”

Now here’s where it gets interesting for you. Just knowing you’ll answer these questions later makes you more mindful right now. When you’re about to skip that workout or healthy lunch? That little voice reminds you: “Remember, you’ll be answering that question tonight.”

It’s not about being perfect—nobody is. It’s about making small, better choices daily. Think about it: Would you rather make one massive change once, or tiny improvements every single day?

In Chinese, we say “滴水穿石” (dī shuǐ chuān shí)—”drip, drip, drip, water penetrates stone.” Your small daily actions will break through your biggest obstacles.

Within months, my stress levels dropped dramatically. I slept better. I had more energy for my work and family. All because I spent 3 minutes a day checking in with myself.

Ready to try this yourself? Here’s your four-step game plan:

  1. Pick questions that light you up. What truly matters in your life right now? Career growth? Better relationships? Personal health? Write down 3-5 questions that would make tomorrow better than today.
  2. Find someone to keep you accountable. Text a friend your answers or use an app that reminds you daily. When I share my answers with my accountability partner, I’m twice as likely to follow through.
  3. This is crucial—no beating yourself up! Low score today? Simply say “I’ll do better tomorrow” and move on.
  4. Track your patterns. After a few weeks, you’ll see exactly where you’re growing and where you need to focus next.

My current favorite question is “Did I do my best to declare victory today?” Because YOU get to define what victory means. Finished that tough project? Victory! Had a meaningful conversation? Victory! Some days, just showing up is the win.
